A wealthy girl and a poor but charming boy make an instant connection that only pushes them closer to each other when their parents try to keep them apart.

On their graduation day Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde), a very shy and wealthy girl with her future already planned out spots, David Elliot (Alex Pettyfer), a boy that is charming but beneath her, staring at her.  There is an instant spark between them but they are pulled away from each other before they even have the time to speak.

That same day David is working as a valet at an upscale restaurant with his friend Mace (Dayo Okeniyi) and Jade's family pulls up, choosing to celebrate Jade's graduation at that same particular restaurant.  Jade watches David out of the window, distracted by  him and not paying attention to what is going on at the table.  Her parents Hugh (Bruce Greenwood) and Anne (Joely Richardson) Butterfield ask Jade what she wants as a graduation present since they have not yet gotten one for her and she decides to have a party.  Her oldest brother Christopher died while she was in school and she withdrew herself from the rest of her classmates, so she decides to invite everyone from her graduating class to the party, since she never go to know anyone when she was in high school.

Her parents approve and she excitedly rushes to invite David to the party but instead witnesses a restaurant patron being rude to David and Mace.  The man tells the two boys to enjoy their three minutes in his car, so they decide to take it for a spin and pressure Jade to ride along.  When they return with the car, the restaurant is in an uproar and then man who's car they took is threatening to sue them for stealing his car.  David and the man exchange words and when the man insults Jade, David punches him, getting him fired from his job.

Jade is disappointed when only friends of her father's come to her party, so when David arrives she apologizes and he tells her the reason no one is at her party is because there is another party that same night.  He then proceeds to call the police and pretend to be an irritated neighbor to get that party shut down so the students will then come to Jade's party.  When the students arrive, David is unhappy to see Jenny (Emma Rigby), his ex-girlfriend and the girl's party he had shut down, has come along with the crowd.  At the end of the party, Jade's dad is giving a speech and asks Jade to come to the front of the room and reluctantly, she slips out of a closet, followed by David.  This causes David and Hugh to start off on the wrong foot.

Hugh encourages Jade to leave David alone but despite her father's pressuring her, she is drawn closer and closer to him.  The Jade and David start a romance that evening that causes sparks to fly and tensions to grow but David's presence also causes the entire family to take a step back and look at life in a whole new light.

This really is a good film.  I won't lie, the ending is a little lame and no guy I know is going to voluntarily line up to watch this one but if you are looking for something a little mushy that you can watch alone, this one would be a great pick.  This movie makes you want to fall in love and stay in love.

There are a few parts where things seems a little over the top.  I mean, there are points in this film where the two of them fight for each other as if they had been together for years when they have only known each other for a few days or few weeks and that feels a little outlandish.  Once the film was over I realized: this is how young people feel about love.  Like no matter what, if they are torn apart their lives can no longer go on.  At points it almost makes you say to yourself "Love shouldn't be this hard".

Despite a few nit picky things I feel for this film, I would say overall it was alright.  It is definitely mushy and as previously stated, not one your husband or boyfriend is going to want to watch with you.  Find some time when you can be on your own and view this one but Don't Forget the Popcorn!
